Opening and closing a shift
Start the day with an opening float, keep the drawer honest, and close with a blind count.

A shift ties every cash movement on a register to the cashier who ran it. You can build carts without one, but taking payment needs an open shift.
Open a shift
When no shift is open on the device, the POS shows No open shift on this device.
- Count the cash you are starting the drawer with.
- Enter it as the Opening float.
- Press Open shift.
Each register can have one open shift at a time. If someone already opened one on this register, continue on it instead.
During the shift
Cash in and cash out
Use Cash in or Cash out whenever money enters or leaves the drawer for something other than a sale — a change top-up, a supplier paid in cash. Enter the amount and say what it is for. Both are required.
Opening the drawer without a sale
No sale opens the drawer without a sale. Each use is recorded against your name and the register.
Holding a cart
Press Hold cart to set an order aside and free the till — for a guest who stepped away, or a table still deciding. You can give it a short label. Find it later under Held carts and press Resume.
Checking the drawer mid-shift
Print X report prints the shift's totals so far without closing it.
Close a shift
- Count all the cash in the drawer.
- Press Close shift and enter the Counted cash.
- Submit. Masil then shows the expected amount and the difference.
The count is blind: the expected figure is only shown after you submit, so the count is what's really in the drawer.
When the drawer is out
Masil compares your count with the expected cash:
| Difference | What happens |
|---|---|
| Within the allowed difference (10.00 SAR by default) | The shift closes. |
| More than the allowed difference | A manager has to close the shift, and a note explaining the difference is required. |
Only the cashier who opened the shift, or a manager, can close it. After closing, press Print Z report for the shift's final totals.
